The Problem with Modern Diets

I’m sure you’ve realised ever since fat loss diets became a thing. Every couple of years something new comes out. Something claiming to be the new silver bullet for fat loss, health and whatever else they are proclaiming.

Think about this new blood glucose monitor that you can buy as a non-type 1 diabetic.

WHY?

Everyone has their own opinion on what works for fat loss and health. Here is the thing, opinion isn’t fact. With as much will in the world will never be factual because someone wants it to be.

There is a big problem in the fitness industry already. The latest influx of misinformation & misrepresentation of that information has made it worse.

I get that some aspects are confusing. Eating more protein when trying to build muscle, but we should eat the same amount when losing fat. That is forgivable…

It isn’t to say that you can only lose fat by controlling your insulin.

Here are the problems, as I see them;

Problem Number 1 — Social Media

The best thing about social media is that anyone can say anything. The worst thing about social media is that anyone can say anything.

Normal is never going to stand out. Unless that ‘normal’ person has an incredible physique, is funny or famous.

If you’re like me you like foods other than boiled chicken & rice vegetables. I also like to drink something other than water.

If you listen to some on social media it has you thinking you are going to die if you eat something processed.

Eddie Abbew has grown huge in the past 12 months or so and why?

He gets watched, people think it’s funny or educational and they will share it.

The algorithm doesn’t stop these posts from getting shared. It’s eyeballs and attention-hungry so they make more money by showing more ads.

This turns into more people seeing the video. Which turns into more people sharing and following.

The controversy turns into more attention because people make back-and-forth videos.

2 years ago, Eddie Abbew was sharing some opinions. When he started with the ‘it’s f**king sh*t’ videos thats when he started to get more popular.

It’s hilarious. Even though I don’t agree with 95% of what he says I still think it’s funny. I often emulate it as well when I see something bad, like a bad movie.

Problem Number 2 — They are trying to make money.

This is ironic because I am also trying to make money by helping people in the same way.

The difference is I am not a charlatan trying to tell people something doesn’t work when it’s backed by years of research…

And no, I am not saying that Eddie Abbew is wrong in everything that he is saying. Some foods are not ‘great’ for you but food is food.

See the thing is Eddie is not practising what he preaches.

He was before a world-class bodybuilder. I can guarantee that in that peak condition, he was eating more often and he was eating loads of carbs too.

Liver King is another. I enjoy Liver King’s videos for the entertainment value and think he’s funny. but he used anabolic steroids to get into the shape he is in.

My opinion on steroids is that it’s fine because it’s their choice but don’t claim it’s not steroids to sell your product.

Spoiler alert:

Eating liver for breakfast lunch and dinner is not going to get you shredded. Oh yeah, neither will you eating liver king bars.

I get it though it’s marketing and he’s rich because of it. It’s the lack of transparency that’s worse. But hey if they taste amazing then go get them.

Problem Number 3 — Authority

If you have ever been on Twitter or X as it’s called now. It seems that anyone with ‘MD’ after their name is a charlatan.

They are the worst of the worst because they use their degrees as authority figures. They ignore the science and control the narrative.

Podcasts are often seen as a vessel of expert information too. You will notice that any guest on a podcast does not align with a guest’s view a week later.

But they’re all Experts?

Paul Saladino is a carnivore guy who seems to now be making his way to eating fruits. Some other experts say that fruit is poison by the way.

He is an MD. In one post he said that some food is shit because in rat studies it did something bad. Disregarding the fact it wasn’t a human trial

Then the next video he said we don’t need human trials.

He did this kind of thing whilst gaining a following. He now has his following, realises he was wrong and has changed his mind. Carbs are life now (I concur with this).

So what is the truth?

The truth is that science is always changing. It’s developed all the time and discoveries come out. So the truth is not everything is 100% factual.

What we do know though is best practice.

If you want a healthy body, healthy life and feel good eat carbohydrates, fibre and high protein. Aim to get stronger and grow muscle and do as much cardio as you can.

And… know that a little bit of a treat in the form of processed food is not going to kill you.
